Nonprint Materials
Cataloging and classification of nonprint materials into a library catalog creates a common system,
so users can locate resources using similar retrieval practices.
Rather than creating a separate policy to handle nonprint materials, we will use our current cataloging
and classification policy and expand when necessary for our particular library. According to Sheila S.
Intner, "the size of the collection and convenience of users should be the guiding principles when
changing a cataloging policy."
We recommend using one system for all library collections, therefore nonprint materials will be catalogued
by using the DDC system and Sears subject headings, the same procedures as with print materials.
This creates a system of familiarity for the user and he/she can locate materials more effectively.
