Cataloging Policy and Procedure Manual

Special categories (Laura B)

Teacher resources:
All teacher resources will be shelved in a separate section of the library, away from the student collection.  Materials will follow designated cataloging rules contained within this cataloging policy and will include a 'TR' above the assigned call number to designate these items as teacher resources.  For example,

In order to aid teachers in finding materials, all books related to curricula and subject-specific teaching practice will be cataloged in the 370s, following the latest Abridged Dewey rules, instead of in the particular Dewey subject.  For example, Poetry Lessons: Everything You Need will be classed as 372.64 (education, literature appreciation), not in the 811s for poetry.

Follow all rules contained in this policy for information on Sears subject headings for teacher resources.

Spanish language materials:
Spanish language materials (materials in Spanish, not about the Spanish language) will be shelved in a separate section to make finding these resources easier for our students and teachers.  All materials written in Spanish (both fiction and nonfiction) will include the code ‘Spa’ above the call number.  For example, a Spanish language version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will have the following call number:
